This month’s speaker is Ankur Ahuja of Varana Capital, LLC – Chief Operating Officer.
Ankur Ahuja, Chief Operating Officer, brings to Varana Capital, LLC over 10 years of operational and investment experience. Prior to joining Varana Capital in 2021, Mr. Ahuja held the position of Founder and CEO at NexGen Logistics, a logistics company he co-founded in 2018, selling just prior to his move to Colorado. From 2009 – 2017, he was CEO of Cadence Distributors, a consumer products business he founded with Mr. Broenniman and subsequently sold to a competitor/license holder whose sales exceed $100MM. And from 2005 – 2009, Mr. Ahuja worked as an intern and then business analyst at Cadence Investment Partners, a New York City-based event-driven hedge fund where he worked alongside Mr. Broenniman. Mr. Ahuja earned a BA in Economics and Finance from New York University in 2009.
Established in 2011, Varana Capital, LLC originally was intended to serve as a family office, managing the personal wealth of its two founders, Philip Broenniman and Ezra Gardner. Over the years, however, demand for access to their portfolio from wealthy friends, other successful professionals, and word-of-mouth caused our mission to evolve into the development of a platform of synergistic, adjacent, and complementary investment products, which build on the excellent performance and successful partnerships of Varana Capital Focused (VCFLP), our flagship fund.
VCFLP is a concentrated portfolio of public and private companies to which we deliver much more than simply capital. Instead, while typically sitting on the board of each firm, we take a cooperative, value-add role, working with management to help guide and to grow a business. By providing assistance across a variety of financial, operational, and strategic dynamics, Varana Capital effectively acts as a merchant bank for our investments. Over the last ten years, we have developed an expertise in early-stage Israeli VC, biotech, and semi-privates.
In addition to Varana Capital Focused, we recently raised $115 million in a SPAC (Gesher I Acquisition Corp – GIAC), will launch next week an SPV that will offer co-investment opportunities in three very intriguing portfolio companies, and expect to soon follow with a seed fund that will invest primarily in Israel.
